The International Symposium on Untargeted Analysis and Environmental Health was successfully held by College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Nankai University

In order to promote discipline construction and international communication, the International Symposium on Untargeted Analysis and Environmental Health was held in Tianjin from August 25 to 27, which was jointly held by College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Nankai University, Kuancheng Wang Education Foundation, National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Key Laboratory of Pollution Processes and Environmental Criteria of Ministry of Education. The seminar was held in a combination of online and offline. More than 150 experts and scholars from Emory University, USA, University of Antwerp, Belgium, Stockholm University, Sweden, Hong Kong Baptist University, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University, Nanjing University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Dalian University of Technology, Jinan University, Shanxi University, Nankai University and other domestic and foreign research institutions attended the seminar.

Jun Chen, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Vice President of Nankai University attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. He extended a warm welcome to the participants and thanked the experts and scholars for their long-term support and help. He pointed out that in the context of governing novel pollutants, the symposium, with the theme of screening and identification of novel environmental pollutants, toxic effects and human health risk assessment, focused on cutting-edge issues of novel pollutants and carried out in-depth discussion, which is an active action to solve major national scientific and technological problems. This symposium will certainly play a positive role in promoting the Action Plan for Novel Pollutant Control promulgated by The State Council.

More than 30 well-known experts in this field including Guibin Jiang, Academician, Research Centre for Eco-Environment of Chinese Academy of Sciences; Professor Qiankun Zhuang, Director of Environmental Chemistry, National Natural Science Foundation of China; Professor Zongwei Cai, Hong Kong Baptist University; Professor Adrian Covaci from University of Antwerp conducted full discussion on non-target analysis techniques of novel environmental pollutants, environmental interface processes, multi-pathway exposure and bioaccessibility, metabolomics, toxic effects and mechanisms, etc. The wonderful and fascinating academic report has brought an academic feast for young scholars and postgraduates to comprehensively understand the non-targeted analysis of novel pollutants and environmental health research.

Lingyan Zhu, chairman of the conference and professor of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering of Nankai University, summarized the conference and pointed out that the conference focused on the national novel pollutant control, and demonstrated the international cutting-edge methods, technologies and theoretical achievements in the field of untargeted analysis and environmental health, which provided a theoretical basis for protecting people's health and had important scientific significance and practical value.

The teachers and students at the conference said that the seminar benefited a lot. The academic big stars elaborated the non-targeted analysis of novel pollutants and the international frontier scientific research achievements of environmental health in a profound and simple way, which inspired everyone to understand the latest trends of the treatment of new pollutants from multiple perspectives.
