International Joint Research Center (Tianjin) for Environmental Health of New Emerging Persistent Toxic Substances (PTS) was approved by Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Commission in 2018. It is attached to School of Environmental Science and Engineering of Nankai University and sponsored by Dr. Lingyan Zhu Research Team with her foreign partners in University of Toronto, Canada and University of Stockholm, Sweden.

Center positioning: Aiming to jointly solve the environmental pollution and human health problems of the new emerging PTS pollutants facing our state, a broad-field, multi-level cooperation with international first-class scientific research teams are launched on the following:

1 To evaluate human exposure and bioavailability of emerging PTSs such as perfluorinated compounds, organic phosphate esters, and bisphenol A substitutes,

2 To develop photocatalytic or advanced oxidative technology for degradation of those PTSs.

Research Achievements: In the past two years, the center had undertaken dozens of national and provincial projects including National Natural Science Foundation of China (Major program), National Key Basic Research Program (973)). Fruitful Cooperation relations with Dr. Scott Mabury research group of the University of Toronto in Canada, Land and Water Research Institute under the Lucas Heights CSIRO in Australia, and Dr. Jonathan W Martin team of the University of Stockholm in Sweden had been built up in personnel exchanges, joint training, cooperative research etc.
