Areas of Interest

In response to their potential hazards, Dr. Zhu has carried out some scientific research to evaluate the ecological environment and public health risks of multiple class novel contaminants (NCs) such as organic flame retardant. It starts with analyzing the pollution characteristics and source and sink mechanism of NCs as well as their covariant relationships with industrial development on the basis of advanced analytical technology. By using innovative experimental design, Dr. Zhu has explored the bioavailability of NCs with emphasis on their deposition behaviors onto plant foliage. Furthermore, key factors of human exposome to NCs, such as external exposure pathways, internal exposure load, in vivo metabolic/transport processes, and microscopic toxicological mechanisms, have also been illustrated through "bottom-up" and "top-down" approaches. Generally, these achievements have filled in the weak understanding of some key scientific issues regarding NCs and provided important scientific and technological support for chemical risk control and human health protection. Up to now, I have authored 30 and co-authored 24 research articles in international journals, with 40 published on Q1 journals based on the classification issued by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, such as Environmental Health Perspectives (n=1), Environmental Science & Technology (Letters; n=10), and Environment International (n=7), etc.
